TVx3 E035: The Highs & Lows We Could Remember From the 2008-09 TV Season

It may seem a little late to tackle the highs and lows of the 2008-09 TV season, cause it was, but we have been sort of trying to go through topic suggestions in the order they were received. And, listener Brandon left a comment May 28th, 2009 on Ep.30 that included the following suggestions:

If you were given total control to create a new show, what kind would it be? What network would it air on? Who would be your dream cast?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the past television season as a whole. What were your highlights and lowlights? What do you hope to see in the future with your fav shows and what mistakes that the networks made this season do you not want to see repeated?

So, we decided to talk about them on the podcast. We took his first suggestion second and his second suggestion first. We were actually able to remember a lot about this past TV season.

But, first we chatted about a few news items including briefly mentioning the rash of celebrity deaths recently, the TVaholic's birthday, Flashpoint returning, JoAnna Garcia joining Gossip Girl for a few episodes, which reminded Amrie of another piece of news, Noah Wyle cast in a new TNT show, Jeri Ryan joining the cast of Leverage and the TVaholic visiting the set, which included some Gina Bellman news, Showtime canceling Brotherhood and a little Law & Order: SVU news.

After covering our news and topics, we talked a bit about Primeval, The Closer, Better Off Ted, So You Think You Can Dance, Burn Notice, and Virtuality.

If you've got thoughts on past episodes, this episode, or have a topic suggestion for us, use the SnapVine widget in the right column, leave a comment below, email us, or connect via Twitter.

So, what did you think of the 2008-09 TV Season? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I’ve got a Topic suggestion: TV Programming Pet Peeves. A few of my biggest Pet Peeves are:
    1) How they show “coming up” clips just before commercial breaks–I’m already watching the show–I don’t need to see “spoilers” for 5 minutes from now–I would rather see a few more minutes of actual show instead.
    2) How the networks still feel the need to extend their shows beyond the hour border by a few minutes–messes up the DVR schedule.
    3) Delays due to sports overruns! I don’t watch sports–but can’t they start them earlier–or scroll the results instead of delaying other shows?! They always run late, so why not allocate more time from the start?
